Amalfi Coast
It is among the most glamorous places in the world, where you can admire coastal panoramas that leave you breathless at any margin; or where you find small beaches in beautiful inlets. The stretch of coast is characterized by pastel-coloured houses placed on high promontories, which make the landscape truly picturesque. Fashion shops, genuine flavours and celebrities here they are a routine. The Amalfi Coast is listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, for its incredible beauty. This stretch of Italian coast takes its name from the city of Amalfi, the central nucleus of the coast both geographically and historically, recalling the exploits of the Amalfi Republic in the Middle Ages.
The Grand Tour rediscovered the coast in the 19th century, the success was such as to exhort the King Ferdinand II of Bourbon House to commission a road that connected all the small centres of the coast. The work was carried out in 18 years, for a length of 50 km of curves.
In the last 50 years, the Amalfi Coast has also been the destination of important film productions, finding these stretches of coast the perfect place for their shots. Famous people on the world scene spend their holidays in this corner of Eden, giving the nickname of “Divine Coast”.
Still on the coast, there are many perfect routes for hiking, the Path of the Gods is very famous, but also the Ferriere Valley. In fact, the Amalfi coast shares with the Sorrento Peninsula the Lattari Mountains, but also the production of lemons which they produce limoncello, a local liqueur, or fresh icecreams.
Municipality
Vietri sul Mare
It is the first stop on the Amalfi coast, also called the “first pearl of the Amalfi coast”, known above all for its ancient tradition of working the ceramics. Tourists from all over the world commission craftsmanship for their furnishings. Its hamlet Albori is part of the club “the most beautiful villages in Italy”.
Cetara
It has always been a fishing village, in fact its name derives from the Greek Ketèia and the Latin Cetaria which means tuna. So it is no coincidence that among the excellent products of Cetara there is the casting of anchovies, a blue fish from the Mediterranean Sea.
Maiori
It was a place where the fleet used to anchor, in fact we can still admire the two Saracen towers of Erchie and also the Norman one. Maiori also has the longest beach on the Amalfi Coast, almost 1 km long.
Minori
They call it “the City of Taste of the Amalfi Coast”, for its pastry specialties. In fact, many bikers they usually stop for a taste of confectionery. Minori is also a seaside town, the beach has crystal clear water.
Atrani
Also part of the club of “the most beautiful villages in Italy”, it is also the smallest Italian municipality by surface.
Ravello
In addition of being one of the highest coastal towns, so very panoramic, it is also the city of music with its annual summer festival – In fact, every year important singers from all over the world, set foot on the important stage – the Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer. But also the architecture is part of this splendid scenario such as Il Duomo and its prestigious villas Cimbrone and Rufolo.
Scala
It is the highest point on the Amalfi Coast (400 m high above the sea) and it is also the oldest village. Scala is a medieval village that is definitely worth seeing.
Amalfi
It is the heart of the Amalfi Coast, geographically the center, its history has given the name to the whole coast. The central point of this town is cathedral, an extraordinary architectural representation that takes on Arabesque and Romanesque characters.
Conca dei Marini
It was once a refuge for expert sailors, in fact they nicknamed the “City of sailors”, but this place with enchanting caves, like the emerald cave, is also where the first form of sfogliatella was made, scilicet a typical sweet from Campania so loved by the locals.
Furore
It is known above all for its hollowed fjord in the mountains descending the sea, giving us one of the most suggestive beaches in Italy. The crystal-coloured water and the manmade bridge, capture the attention of thousands of tourists every year.
Praiano
The name is likely from the term praia, meaning beach, from the Greek plagion. But more than Praiano beach, it is characteristic for the stretch houses on a steep promontory facing the sea. A peculiarity of the city that is especially noticeable by navigating the coast.
Positano
If Amalfi gives the name to the coast, Positano gives the grace. In fact, this small village built vertically on limestone rocks is very famous all over the world. So important to have its own local stylish brand, Positano fashion. The world elites choose Positano to spend their holidays, and it is certainly the most glamorous place on Amalfi coast.
Tramonti
It is called the green lung of the Amalfi Coast. The Chiunzi pass is the step forward to find ourselves on the other side the Lattari Mountains, in the Neapolitan area.
